VideoHarry Connick, Jr. Eats BalutMar 23, '08 11:33 PM
for everyone
There are so many reasons to love Harry Connick:

1. He's a MUSICIAN. Not just a singer. Played piano at age 3 and works closely with the boys in his Big Band--some of which he grew up with on Basin St. down in New Orleans. His types of music--jazz, blues and funk.

2. He's from New Orleans but unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to ask if he could take me back with him.

3. He's gwapo!

4. He's funny and kind of luko-luko.

5. He ate balut halfway through his show at the PICC!

This is the footage I was able to steal with my little TX1. In my heart, he's the one man Mardi Gras.

Really Eddie Boy, what a guy! I actually have more of his antics and music on that little trusty sneaky TX1 but this one pretty much tops it.

I feel bad I didn't get to meet him. (I wonder if Tim Yap did--he was there with MTV I think...sigh). I hope I get a chance to see him perform again. It was a two hour show but it was bitin. He said he had a repertoire of 200+ songs that he changes from city to city depending on the audience.

Awww, Melanie, he said he wanted to come back, eat more mangoes and check out our beaches. I'd love to be the tour guide, he seems super fun to hang out with and type na pwede siya sa turo turo or inumang pambahay!

I hope he does return (just like Sting and Incubus) for the benefit for those who missed it.

Will you have a send off by the way?

Hi Caz...I can burn you a disc of my stolen Connick moments. He was a riot and I have some of his dancing too! What a guy!
nazgulqueen wrote on Mar 24
He actually sat in the audience section for a while, and the guys in his band and Harry himself threw some balut eggs at the crowd!

He got up to dance and did a lot of classics and while we all know this man has his original compositions if I'm not mistaken he focused his set that night on jazz and blues favorites. My quiet personal favorite, he did--"When Your Lover Has Gone" (this must have been a blues song from the 30's?) except that when he sings it, you don't feel so sad because you're just looking at this gorgeous, talented man and seeing him smile as he plays his piano and you're pretty much just in swoon mode.

Harry, balik ka dito! Kain tayo sa JT's Manukan!

Me too and with good reason. He's got great rapport with people and is super down to earth and he loves his "Big Band." And I like that he's really more than just a singer--arranges, writes, composes, plays and goofs off. Love ya, Harry!

Though to be honest I think I would love him more in smoky jazz club than in the PICC.

May he return. I actually want to try give his "funk" album a spin. Apparently that one alienated his fans who had gotten accustomed to jazz and the blues.

Hope your dad's doing fine, send him my regards.

I'm actually not too sure about DD as I saw them in '88 and I may not be in town when they do perform. I wonder how much "make up" the boys'll be wearing though.

Pete T - let my love open the door to your heart

Wow. Mike and I are sooooo inggit. We wanted to watch the show sana but the tickets were damn expensive and it was a leetle too close to my due date.

Did Harry sing a lot of his Big Band hits?
nazgulqueen wrote on Apr 1
Well, not that I'm an endorser or whatever but if you use some Globe services you could have gotten 20-25% off on tickets for this show and that's what I did.

He did a lot of the classics, jazz favorites con mucho gusto--a very enthusiastic performer and just having great rapport with his big band. He didn't do the Harry Met Sally song. Though I looooooved when he did that 1930's song, "When Your Lover Has Gone." Ooooh.
