I must love a pirate's life a lot--believe it or not, I was actually sick throughout Pyrate Con '08 (I was prone to getting tired really easily and didn't get myself checked 'til I got back to Manila and the condition was growing worse, anyway, saw a doctor and feeling a lot better and more energetic). Despite all that, I still managed to meet a lot interesting chaps, I really wish I had a check up before I left--I'm imagining the damage I could have inflicted on the French Quarter with these fellas had I been 100% healthy!!!
Anyway, I thought Isaac Singleton (Barbossa's Bosun in Curse of the Black Pearl) was the biggest sweetheart in the world, I absolutely loved hanging out with him--walking the Quarter, chatting in the girls' room, having chocolate and beignets and Cafe du Monde. I totally hope I can see him again and invite him to visit Manila!
Mystery Jack popped into the room at something like 1am, I opened the door and he hung out with us for about half an hour. When he left, the ladies were asking what his was and I said, "I don't know I thought you knew him." And they told me, "We thought YOU knew him!" Now he will be forever known as Mystery Jack.
Valentin del Rio was everyone's crush. Including mine! He plans to cosplay as both Jack and Will (on different days of course, not half and half doble kara style ha?) at the next Pyrate Con.
Then there's the Lycan--the boyfriend of Pyrate Con's Grand Marshall at the parade, "Scarlet Harlot." Frank Picone is a native of New Orleans and told me his story about his Katrina experience. Strange Bay Pirate kept an eye out on me throughout the Con and made sure I kept safe in the French Quarter, Rich Rexach is a firefighter in Colorado who also likes doing charity work with kids and will be in Peru next month, Ron apparently has worked as a Johnny Depp double and is actually quite shy and there's Roger of Dresslikeapirate.com--who invited me to join his group on a dinner aboard the Natchez (and I ended up declining because I was feeling sick). Then there's my "tour guide" who I met outside the St. Louis Cathedral on an utterly glorious Sunday morning in the quarter. We were talking about the buildings, the architecture and the iron lace work and I didn't even get his name...signs nga of illness.
Argh. I plan to go back next year (so no one make fun my containers filled with coins, if it worked for Brendan Fraser in Journey ot the Center of the Earth, it'll work for me) I vow to be 100% and I will tear up the town.
PIRATES, YE BE WARNED.
