NazgulQueen's Corner of Mordor

The chilly burger. Not a paltry tablespoon of vanilla ice cream between two mass produced cookies.

This is much like those chipwiches they sold in New York in the 80's (I wonder if they still do). Only fatter and more delectable.

The cookies (chocolate cookies and chocolate chip cookies) are home made by a friend of mine from the Philippine Tolkien Society named Rachel. And if they can pass muster with the hobbits who like to eat well and eat hearty and the elves with their high standards, they'll certainly do for me.

The gargantuan slab of ice cream in the middle--vanilla, chocoholics anonymous, chocolate macadamia, cookie dough (?) is by the one and only Sebastian.

The ice cream and cookies are either rolled in crushed nuts, crushed oreos, tiny chocolate chips or candy sprinkles.

Despite being a big fan of dark chocolate, my favorite Chilly Burger flavor is the classic with vanilla ice cream between two chocolate chip cookies rolled in nuts and tiny chocolate chips.

Unfortunately when I walk home from the Ortigas commercial center, I almost always invetibly pass by the Podium. And up there on the fourth floor is where all that evil, delectable, addictive, euphoria inducing ice cream is situated. Oscar Wilde is known for saying "The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it... I can resist everything but temptation."

What could I do. The Chilly Burger called to me when it started being sold there last year. And I answered.

It was a pleasure eating that first Chilly Burger. It was so huge I practically made that my lunch. It was so yummy, I knew I was going back for another one and another one and another one and another one...

And I did.

I was addicted to the Chilly Burger. The saleslady already knew who I was and dug her hand into the Chilly Burger stash each time she saw me.

I felt I had to do something about it. I had to overcome the addiction. I could not make meals out of ice cream. So this was my strategy: eat as many Chilly Burgers as I could until I got tired of them. To get to the point of diminishing returns. I don't know if I'm using a proper analogy but I remember this short story from Anais Nin's collection of erotica Delta of Venus. The story was called "Artists and Models" and I think its about this bizarre couple who just locked themselves up in room together for something like a week, until they sort of of "maxed out" each other (to use credit card parlance) until all vestiges of desire were sated and no longer wanting.

I've lost count of the Chilly Burgers I've consumed over the last few months. But I think I'm fine now. I can look a Chilly Burger in the face and resist it.

Next project: overcome the addiction the chocolate chip cookie dough.

HAHAHAHA!!! I'll forward this link to Ian, I'm sure he'll be so happy to read it. Did Belle or I tell you about that night we saw Ian in Route 196? When I introduced him to my sister and bro-in-law, they acted like he was a rock star! It turns out Ian actually used to sing in a rock band years ago (I think Silent Sanctuary? Belle might remember.), so I said that even though he isn't in a band now, he's still a rock star in our world. :-D

My new Sebastian's flavor obsession is the Pastillas de Leche ice cream. It's seldom available, but it is divine! Not for those who don't have a sweet tooth...but if you like pastillas de leche, this is heaven! I have yet to try the Chilly Burgers with the fudge center! Have you?

He is kind of a star isn't he?

I met his partner / boyfriend over the holidays.

I've tried most of the flavors even if it is just taking a bit from other people's Chilly Burgers. But really, it's the classic I fell for. How did you meet Ian was it through his ice cream or was this before?

After 23 years and still being motivated to do things inspired by this man? You could be right.

When did that happen and where did you have to go to get your stash?

Cap'n!!!! There's this jewel from the South, you've gotta try it. Two words: FRIED OREOS. I have yet to try it, but I've heard a lot of raving reviews about that sin. :P I have yet to try Chilly Burger, but I can't simply get enough of Reitch's cookies. ^_____^

Mmmm... Sounds like another thing to add to my Must-Pig-Out-On-List. I wonder if anyone has Fried Oreos here.

I'm not sure if Flaming Wings resto has branches in the North, but that's home of Fried Oreos (tm). :D Will post a food review once I get to try it! ^___^

Fried Oreos? Where is that available?

And how is it prepared?

Karen, I just e-mailed you Ian's response to your post. He loved it, of course! He wanted to comment, but he's not on Multiply. Check out his new flavors of Chilly Burgers! I'm dying to find another excuse to head to Podium to try them!

I met him because of his ice cream. First, just through e-mails and text, then we were introduced in person by Mila, another fan of his. We are Sebastian's groupies! :-D

Here's his comment:

MWAHAHAHAHAAH! I love it! I tried leaving a comment but since I don't have an account I couldn't do so :( ah well. Just tell her I did read it and I was greatly amused :D

- Ian

P.S. I have a new SLEW of Truffle Burgers for you to try! :) Caramel Centers in both vanilla and chocolate ice cream, and a peanut butter center. Let me know what you think! ;)

Soon there will be a support group, like Alcoholics Anonymous...

By accident actually.I bought of a couple of boxes of Oreo's Double Stuff Fudge Cookies at Landmark a while back.Since I like my Oreos moist and fresh,I told the maid to put in the chiller. She must have heard me wrong and placed them in the FREEZER! A day and a half went by and I had a craving for a couple of Oreos. Was surprised to find them frozen and was even more surprised when I bitten off a piece and it was sooo good!So I was buying them like half a dozen boxes and freezing them.It got so out of hand that I was totally living on Frozen Oreos. And my blood sugar nearly hit the roof.My wife totally cut me off from Oreos, fudge or otherwise.

I don't know what sort of reaction the men would get from their wives / girlfriends / partners if they tried to separate the women from their chocolate!

I still think locking you and Johnny Depp in a room to attempt 'maxxing out' is a delicious idea XD
Gah! After I got over Dairy Queen addiction (by ticking off each item in their menu/flyer as I eat them) you bring me this! waaaaaaaa! *scampers to Podium*

oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh.

the closest I'v ever come to trying these are Coney Island's Eskimo Rolls in greenbelt when i was a kid.
And I've been missing those, but now I think I may have just found its replacement.

(and so sorry didn't make it to powerbooks on time yesterday- I wanted to see you but my workshop ended late)

Anabel, I think Ian was probably inspired by Eskimo Rolls, but I think Chilly Burgers are MUCH better. I used to find Eskimo Rolls boring, but you could never say that about Chilly Burgers! Man...I'm starting to sound like Sebastian's mouthpiece...I swear, I have no stake in the company! Though, if they paid me in kind, I wouldn't mind at all! ;-)
nazgulqueen wrote on Feb 17
It's OK Anabel. When will you be in the area?

Alternately, I have a mini cooler for when I attend a party and bring Sebastians.

And it's all perfectly legal.

Sorry about Victorian Valentine. Full schedule and tired girl and will try to make things up to you and Ranulf.

hahahahaha...no, am sure you wouldn't mind at all!!!

Well I liked eskimo rolls (then again, I liked coney island)...it was something I used to do with my Lola :) But this definitely sounds like the improved version of the cookie sandwich. And much bigger- I used to eat deveral eskimo rolls and now I'm wondering if I can do justice to ONE CBurger.

And Karen, I have no clue when I'll be in the area- if I ever find myself there, you know there'll be a text/call/howl from me.
nazgulqueen wrote on Feb 17
Or, you know, I mentioned my cooler. So maybe one night I can bring a stash over to Oarhouse. Would make a great dessert to your parmigiana.

Will give you a text/call/howl too.
